MORE anti-riot Police were being sent to Lira where some people died in a riot, Inspector General of Police Katumba Wamala said last evening.

He said action would be taken against the agitators of the demonstration.

He said three people died and stone-pelting rioters injured a soldier.

"We are sending more anti-riot Police," Katumba said when asked about the precautions Police was to take.

"Once there is proof, we shall take action against the agitators," he added.

Army spokesman Maj. Shaban Bantariza blamed local politicians for the riot. He said they organised the demonstration when people were still mourning.

"This is lack of appreciation on the part of some leaders. They failed to correctly assess the situation and now they have realised when the situation is out of hand" Bantariza said.

"You can't organise a demonstration when people are mourning," he added.
